Abstract

951,409. Gas blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Oct. 2, 1962 [Oct. 4, 1961], No. 37277/62. Heading H2B. In a gas blast circuit-breaker, the gas-filled (e.g. with sulphur hexafluoride) extinguishing chamber 2 is constructed as a pumping cylinder and contains a piston 7, having a gas channel 12, and a movable contact 6, having a lostmotion coupling with the piston. Actuation of an insulating linkage 8 to open contacts 5, 6 causes contact 6 to move through the piston 7 until a member 9 engages a stop 10, whereupon the contact starts to move the piston, gas being forced through the channel 12 and across the tip of contact 6, now housed fully within the piston, to extinguish the arc. Upon closing member 9 first moves to engage a stop 11, in which position the contact closes off the channel 12, and then the piston is forced back, gas being displaced through a second channel 13 and a non-return valve 14.
