Abstract
1394545 Gas blast switches SIEMENS AG 27 March 1973 [27 March 1972] 14775/73 Heading H1N In a high voltage electrical switch of the puffer type wherein two fixed contacts 3, 4 shaped to define nozzles 3a, 4a for the flow of arc quenching SF 6 gas co-operate with a movable bridging contact 7 having at its trailing end a contact ring 9 of arc resistant material, and wherein the moving contact when the switch opens moves in conjunction with a piston arrangement 10 to compress the arc quenching gas, a set of auxiliary gas by-pass ducts 40 are provided to improve the flow 41b of the arc quenching gas past contact ring 9. These auxiliary ducts enter the main gas path again via bores 42 downstream of nozzle 4a. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), shaped by-pass passages (50) are formed in the fixed contact (4) behind the nozzle (4a). In a third embodiment passages are provided in the contact ring 9 itself, through which an auxiliary flow of gas can pass to the arc zone.
