Abstract
996,429. Gas blast switches. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. March 13, 1964 [March 22, 1963], No. 10872/64. Heading H2B. A gas blast circuit breaker has a hollow cylindrical moving contact 2, with arc resistant tip 4, which is engageable with fixed resilient finger contacts 12 supported in a guide 25 and surrounded by an insulating nozzle 30 having a cylindrical mouth 35 through which passes the contact 2 and a smoothly tapering portion 26 which co-operates with the outer surface of guide 25 to form an annular channel 40 for arc extinguishing gases, there being an arcing pin 20 located concentrically of the contacts 12 and having a tip 21 in the region of the transition between the cylindrical and tapering parts of the nozzle 30. Passages 39 feed the blast gas which may be SF 6 from the port 38 to the annular channel 40; additional passages 42 pass gas to the region of the arc through the spaces between the contacts 12. The moving contact 2 is mounted upon a piston 6. To open the contacts the port 38 is connected to compressed gas source. The gas passes through channel 40 and between the contact 2 and the nozzle 35 and acts on piston 6 to open the contacts. The contacts only open when the pressure is sufficient for the blast action. The blast gas may be recirculated through a compressor (not shown).
