Abstract
803,714. Gas-blast switches. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE. A.G. April 16, 1956 [April 14, 1955], No. 11537/56. Class 38 (5). The main contacts 1 of an air-blast circuitbreaker are bridged by a resistance 5 with an air-blast series interrupter 4, 10. A magnetic core 6 around the main conductor 3 attracts an armature 7 on a lever 8 which acts, with a spring 9, on a piston contact 10 so that under heavy current conditions the contacts 4, 10 cannot separate although the air pressure is applied to the underside of the piston contact. When the circuit of the main interrupter is broken, the armature 7 is released and contacts 4, 10 are opened by the compressed air which escapes via holes 12. The resistance does not remain in circuit for the interruption of normal load currents since the contacts 4, 10 are not held closed. In Fig. 2, movement of the piston 10 is blocked by a spring latch 15 which is held by a linkage 13, 14, while the armature 7 is attracted. Alternatively the linkage may be acted upon by a series current loop having movable limbs (not shown).
