Abstract

667,520. Air-break switches; switches, partly electromagnetic. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. April 12, 1950. No. 8988/50. Class 38 (v). The release of a circuit-breaker is prevented when the pressure of the arc-extinguishing air falls below a certain value, except when the current to be broken is also below a certain value. The release circuit includes a trip coil 14 and a contact 13 carried by the armature 4 of a relay 2 having a coil 3 carrying the current to be broken. The contact 13 is normally held closed by a spring 5 connected through a lever 6 to a piston 10. If the pressure falls, a spring 11 pushes the piston to the left, thereby reducing the tension on the spring 5, so that if coil 3 is carrying a current which cannot be safely broken, the armature 4 is attracted to open contact 13, so as to prevent completion of the trip circuit at contact 1.
