Aug. 7, 1931, No. 22416. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1930. [Class 38 (v).] Latching. - In order to prevent opening of the circuit at a gasblast switch when inadequate blastpressure for safe rupture of the arc is available, a pressure piston valve c at a certain minimum pressure admits the gas pressure from the container a to the diaphragm of a pressure responsive device to open, rapidly and with considerable force, a switch in the tripping-control circuit of the breaker. As the pressure in the container falls off the piston c is pressed downwards exposing the passage e to the pressure which distorts the diaphragm f and forces the spring-controlled rod g into engagement with the contact-arm i. Closure of the switch n, which is normally effective to trip the circuit-breaker, leaves the breaker unaffected. The valve arrangement described may lock closed a valve controlling the supply of pneumatic pressure for the opening movement.
