Abstract

817,519. Furnace atmospheres. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. April 24, 1957 [April 26, 1956], No. 13100/57. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for the supply to furnaces 1 and 2 of a mixture of nitrogen and organic vapours used in the heat treatment of metals, e.g. cementation of steel, comprises atomizers 3 and 4 respectively supplied with the organic liquid from a reservoir 15 through pipes 13 and 14, with atomizing nitrogen under pressure from a reservoir 7, through pipes 5 and 6, and with additional gas, e.g. propane, under pressure from a reservoir 11 through pipes 9 and 10. The liquid is supplied from a storage tank 22 through a degasifying apparatus 23 and a pump 21 under control of a float device 19. Compressed air supplied through a line 16 provides the pressure in the reservoir 15 under control of a safety valve 18. The supply pipes for the liquid. and gases are provided with control valves 25-30 and flowmeters 31-36. Associated with the atomizer 4 is a heater 37 provided with a thermostat 38 controlling the liquid supply to the atomizer by a valve 39.
