610,003. Vaporizing liquefied gases. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. March 27, 1946, No. 9549. Convention date, April 11, 1945. [Class 8 (ii)] A portable, heat-insulated, gas-dispensing apparatus comprises a liquefied gas vessel 10 connected by a gas conduit 24 near its top to a gas chamber 20 which in turn leads to a discharge conduit 13, and the gas conduit is provided with a trap to prevent the passage of liquefied gas in excess of that required to maintain the gas supply irrespective of the position of the apparatus. The trap comprises right-angled convolutions 26, 27, and the gas chamber 20 is formed as an annular space between the vessel neck 11 and a tube 15 of an electric immersion heater 16. A bellowspressed plate 21 and the discharge conduit 13 delivers the oxygen gas to its place of use. Charging of the vessel 10 with liquid oxygen is effected through a connector 40, stop valve 39 and a conduit 36 also provided with loops 41, 42 to trap liquefied gas in the event of the vessel being inverted, and so prevents unwanted transfer of heat from a heavy metallic headblock 12 to which the conduit 36 is secured. On the trap inlet 25 being submerged, transference from the vessel 10 to the chamber 20 of liquid oxygen in excess of that required to maintain the pressure in the chamber 20 against discharge through the conduit 13 is prevented by the gas pressure in the chamber 20. Conduits 43, 48 are connected to liquid level indicators. In a modification, the trapped conduit may be disposed entirely within the gas chamber; the conduit delivery being either at the side or base of the chamber. In a further modification, the trapped conduit delivers into a cup which is secured to the interior of the vessel, and has a tube surrounding the heating element passing through its base; the gas passes through orifices in the tube to the gas chamber formed by the annular space between the tube and the heater.
