Abstract

1382338 Mixing fluids L'OREAL 13 April 1972 [16 April 1971] 17167/72 Heading B1C In a method and apparatus for making and storing a mixture of fluids which are not liquid at ambient temperatures, especially a propellant for an aerosol container, a mixture of liquefied chlorofluoroalkanes is supplied through a refrigerator 3, 4, metering liquid ring pump 6, anti-surge accumulator 8 and electromagnetic valve 7 to a static mixer 22. Liquefied nitrous oxide is supplied from a reservoir 11 through a pressure pump 12, piston or diaphragm metering pump 13, anti-surge accumulator 19 and electromagnetic valve 16. The mixture passes through a concentration meter 39 which controls the pump 13 to keep constant. The proportion of chlorofluoroalkanes to nitrous oxide. Alternatively the pump 13 may be controlled by flowmeter(s) for the other liquid or liquids. The liquefield gas supplies have recirculation lines 9, 14, 17 with pressure relief valves 10, 15, 18 to control the supply pressures so that both fluids are supplied to the mixer at an absolute pressure of 19 bars, and at a temperature of -25‹C which is maintained in the mixer by a cooling jacket 23. The mixture passes through a pressure reducer 25 and heater 26 to a storage vessel which contains an internal flexible jacket 29 the inside of which is subjected to air pressure, and which is enclosed by a protective grid 30. Probes (37a, 38a Fig. 2 not shown), sense the size of the flexible jacket to control the valves 7, 16.
