793,828. Forcing liquids by air pressure. WILD-BARFIELD ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1956 [Jan. 6, 1956], No. 589/56. Class 102(2). Apparatus for feeding liquids at a slow steady rate from a container to a point of use comprises a liquid container 1 having an inlet at the top for air supplied from the mains through a pressure regulator 5 and pipe 4. The liquid is forced through an outlet pipe 6, which extends to near the bottom of the tank, a filter 7, a finecontrol needle-valve 8, and an indicating flow meter 9 to a chamber 12. The chamber 12 has a float controlled inlet valve, and an air escape vent, which may be a slot in a threaded bolt. The liquid flows from the chamber 12 by gravity to its point of use through a flexible tube 17 which may penetrate the refractory lining of a metallurgical heat treatment furnace lid 18, the liquid being a carburizing liquid. The chamber 12 may be sited so that on raising the lid of the furnace the liquid flows back to the chamber 12 to close the float controlled inlet valve. The bolt forming the air escape vent may be screwed down to close the vent and at the same time hold the float valve open so that the system may be initially charged.
