Abstract

1,087,726. Refrigerators. AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICAL Inc. Nov. 27, 1964 [Nov. 29, 1963], No. 48216/64. Heading F4H. A refrigerator comprises an enclosure 1, e.g. a truck body, a container 5 for liquefied gas, e.g. nitrogen, a conduit 15 communicating with the vapour space of the container and a conduit 13 communicating with the liquid in the container, the arrangement being such that while the container is being charged with liquefied gas the evolved vapour can be supplied through conduit 15 to cool the enclosure and, subsequently, the enclosure is supplied with liquid via conduit 13. Conduits 13 and 15 communicate via respective valves 33, 19 with a spray header 37, and conduit 15 communicates via a valve 23 with a line 21 which discharges to the exterior of enclosure 1, charging of container 5 being terminated when liquid is discharged from line 21. Valves 19 and 23 are operated by vapour from conduit 15 which is supplied thereto under the control of manual valves 27, 31 located externally of the enclosure. Valve 33 is also operated by vapour from conduit 15, the vapour line 43, 41 to the valve including a dooroperated valve 47, which ensures that no liquid can be supplied to header 37 when the door is open, and a device 39 which controls the vapour supply in response to the temperature of the enclosure. A vent line 51 including a pressureresponsive safety valve 53 is provided for conduit 15.
