Abstract

875,752. Refrigerating. LIQUEFREEZE CO. Inc. Feb. 29, 1960, No. 7114/60. Class 29. In apparatus in which liquid nitrogen is supplied to a transportable storage con tainer 5 from a receiver 2 and the vaporized nitrogen from container 5 flowsthrough pipe 6 to a compressor-condenser unit 1 supplying liquid to the receiver, make-up gaseous nitrogen is supplied to the compressor inlet. The inlet and outlet pipes 3, 6 of the container are disconnectible therefrom and include valves 4, 7. Some nitrogen is thus lost from the system each time a fresh container is connected. A compressor 13 forces air through coolers 15A, 17 and 11 to a separator 20 from the top of which gaseous nitrogen passes to the inlet of the main compressor through pipes 21, 12. Liquid oxygen from the bottom of separator 20 effects cooling in echanger 17 and is vented to atmosphere or recovered for use. Exchanger 15A is air- or water-cooled. Exchanger 11 is cooled by evaporation of liquid nitrogen tapped from pipe 3 through pipe 9, the resulting gas passing through pipe 12 to the compressor inlet. The makeup system includes a purifier 15B and a purging device 8 is located in pipe 6.
