Abstract

879,856. Storing and transporting liquefied gases. CARTER, G. O. Aug. 6, 1957, No. 24769/57. Class 8(2). Liquefied natural gas is charged into heat insulated storage tanks of a transport vessel 10 and at its destination the tanks are discharged into shore tanks 12 from which it passes in heat exchange with air to be rectified in a unit 17 from which liquid nitrogen is fed through a duct 19 into tanks 20 and into the transport vessel tanks to replace the liquefied natural gas and thereby serves to maintain the temperature thereof at a low value. At the end of the return journey the liquid nitrogen serves to provide cold for the liquefaction of the natural gas.
