Abstract

895,663. Tankers. CALIFORNIA TEXAS OIL CORPORATION. March 31, 1960 [March 7, 1960], No. 11357/60. Class 113. A tanker comprising wing and floor tanks 38 and 42, for liquid cargo or ballast, and holds containing independent thermally insulated tanks 32, liquified gas, has provision for maintaining the pressure in the tanks 32 at approximately atmospheric pressure, without venting the tanks to atmosphere, and for agitating the liquefied gas in the tanks to prevent thermal stratification. Abnormal amounts of vapour occurring in the tanks 32 are condensed by the refrigeration unit 230 and the formation of vacuums may be prevented by the generation of vapour in the vapourizer 276. Both units are automatically operable in response to a pressure sensitive cell 400. The contents of the tanks 32 may be agitated by circulation through the pumps 236 and nozzles 316. The construction and supporting arrangements of the insulated tanks 32 is described and also the handling arrangements for both types of cargo.
