Abstract

1415401 Refrigerators UNION CARBIDE CORP 26 Jan 1973 [27 Jan 1972] 4059/73 Heading F4H An insulated container for perishable goods is provided with overhead spray conduits 22, which are connected to a container 19 of liquefied gas, e.g. nitrogen, and the flow from which is controlled in accordance with the temperature in the container sensed by sensors 23, and with a metal floor 16 provided with electrical heating elements controlled by ambient air temperature sensors outside the container, the arrangement being such that the inner walls of the container are prevented from reaching a temperature substantially below the gas temperature within the container. The heating elements are connected to a three-phase power supply in a delta arrangement and further sets of heaters are arranged to be activated at different temperatures. Examples of temperatures at which the heating elements and the supply of gas to the spray conduits are quoted for producing appropriate temperatures within the container for different perishable loads. The container is divided by retractable partitions 14 into four compartments each provided with a spray conduit 22 and temperature sensor 23.
