[Class 69 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A process for metering liquified gases of very low boiling points, such as nitrogen and oxygen, comprises the cooling of the meter 17 by the liquified gas or its vapour before commencing metering the liquid, and maintaining the pressure in the meter higher than its vapour pressure at the temperature of the source 11. The meter 17, which may be of the meshing-screw type described in Specification 584,460, may be mounted in the vapour of a receiver 14, in the liquid of a separate well, Fig. 2 (not shown), or in the vapour above the liquid 10 in the container 11. The pressure increase at the meter is either secured by using a pump 23, or pressurizing the supply in the container 11 by evaporating a portion in an external coil 30 and passing the vapour through a pipe 31 back to the container. The registering mechanism 18, of the meter is placed in a warm position outside the heat-insulating material 16. To transfer liquid from the container 11 to the receiver 14, valves 261, 21<SP>1</SP> and 29<SP>1</SP> are kept closed and valves 22<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>1</SP> kept open so that when the pump 23 is started, liquid is circulated around and back to the container 10. Valve 26<SP>1</SP> is then opened, valve 251 closed and valves 271, 28<SP>1</SP> adjusted to proportion the discharge of liquid either into the gas space or into the liquid space of the receiver according to whether the pressure in 14 is to be increased, kept constant or decreased. Instead of using the pump 23, valve 22<SP>1</SP> may be closed, and, after pressurizing the container 11 by opening valve 29<SP>1</SP> and allowing liquid to flow through coil 30, valve 21<SP>1</SP> is opened to byepass the pump 23.
