Abstract

1,042,130. Gas liquefaction processes. N.V. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPFABRIEKEN. April 8,1965 [April 11, 1964], No. 14937/65. Heading F4P. In a process for liquefying a gas comprising connecting a compressed gas supply reservoir 1, Fig. 3 (not shown), through a valved duct 2 to the condensation space 3 of a cold gas refrigerator 4 and to a chamber 5 in series with space 3 followed by closure of a valve 8 in duct 2 and continued cooling of the condensed gas charge until the resulting pressure is at or below the pressure in a liquid gas receiver 7 which is normally closed by a valve 9 from receiver 5, delivery of product liquid gas from chamber 5 to receiver 7 is effected by opening said valve 9 and simultaneously admitting gas to space 3 from reservoir 1, e.g. by opening valve 8. A float valve in chamber 5 prevents heavy gases such as oxygen being transferred with liquid to receiver 7 and a check valve 15 prevents return of vapour to chamber 5. In liquefying light gases such as hydrogen the float valve is dispensed with and discharge of condensate from chamber 5 is effected by opening a valve 21, Fig. 5 (not shown) in a restriction 20 by-passing the valve 8.
