Abstract
1,097,622. Refrigerating. WORTHINGTON CORPORATION. April 27, 1965 [May 5, 1964], No. 17625/65. Heading F4H. [Also in Division F1] In a refrigeration system having at least two evaporators 21, 22 operating at substantially different temperatures and a multi-stage compressor 10, the low-temperature evaporator 22 is connected to the inlet 32 of the low-pressure compressor stage 11 and the high-temperature evaporator is connected at 28 to an intermediate chamber 13 forming a connecting passage between the low-pressure stage and high-pressure stage 12. Liquid refrigerant from the condenser 17 is supplied to chamber 13 through line 130 under the control of a valve 131 responsive to the temperature of the high-pressure stage discharge line 16. This liquid cools the vapour supplied to stage 12 and enables the volumetric capacities of stages 11 and 12 to be maintained substantially equal. Each of stages 11 and 12 comprises four cylinders (Figs. 2 to 4, not shown) and one or more of the cylinders of each stage is/are provided with unloading means (see Division F1) operated in response to evaporator temperature.
