Abstract
1485583 Refrigerating; defrosting EMHART INDUSTRIES Inc 7 Jan 1975 [8 Jan 1974] 648/75 Heading F4H A refrigeration system comprises a compressor 42, condenser 50 and a receiver 58 connected to the liquid line 54 extending between the condenser and a plurality of evaporators 62, 64 each having an expansion valve, the condenser being exposed to ambient temperature conditions and of sufficient capacity to condense all the gaseous refrigerant from the compressor and there being a pressure responsive valve 56 in the liquid line to assure at least partial flooding of the condenser under normal ambient temperatures. Hot refrigerant gas from the compressor is delivered through a line 100 to a selected evaporator at a pressure exceeding liquid line pressure for defrosting. A discharge pressure sensing line 100 is connected to the receiver and extends to a regulating valve 112 in the compressor discharge line 48, the valve being normally open but is operable to restrict gas flow through the line 48 if pressure falls during defrosting so as to increase the compressor head pressure and the pressure in the receiver and liquid lines through a line 98 and valve 96. The liquid refrigerant in the receiver and liquid line is maintained at a substantially constant pressure less than that of the compressor discharge by a pressure reducing valve 96 in a line 98 between the compressor discharge line and the receiver, which valve is responsive to a pressure below that of the valve 56. A plurality of compressors 40, 42, 44 may be provided to achieve capacity above that under normal ambient temperatures with at least one compressor being inoperative in response to gas pressure in a suction line from the evaporators to the compressors. An additional condenser 76 may be provided for reclaiming heat from the compressed refrigerant, the condenser being selectively connectable in series with the condenser 50.
