Abstract
751,629. Burners modified for special purposes; mounting burners. HUTTENWERK OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES. Feb. 18, 1954 [March 26, 1953], No. 4729/54. Class 75(1). A gas burner for use in an industrial furnace has a nozzle body for introducing fluid or solid carburizing medium into the core of the fuel gas stream with the outlets for the gas and carburizing medium protected from above by a hood extending beyond the outlets. The burner 3 comprises a fuel passage 19 having an inlet 15 and a conduit 18 for feeding carburizing medium into the core of the burner flame, and a hood 21 which extends for some distance over the top of the flame and which is hollow for the passage of a cooling medium supplied and withdrawn through pipes 16. Oxygen is fed underneath the flame through a pipe 17. The burner 3 can be adjusted axially being rigidly connected to a slide 4 movable on rails 5 by a chain 7 and gearing driven by a motor 6. The angle of tilt of the burner can be adjusted by means of a turnbuckle 9 pivotally connected to a column 10 and to the rails 5. The burner 3 can also be swung about a vertical pivot, the upper part of the column 10 being rotatable relatively to the lower part by turning a handwheel 14 on a screwed spindle 13 connecting the two parts.
