Abstract

An aluminium base alloy having a composition within the range B 0.5-10.0 per cent one or both of Ti and Zr 1.5-10.0 per cent, Al the balance is produced by the reduction of an alkali metal fluoborate and at least one of the alkali metal fluotitanates and alkali metal fluozirconates with molten aluminium. The alloys may contain as impurities Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Si and Zn e.g. in amounts up to 0.75 per cent. The alloy is stated to be useful for the deoxidation of molten iron, copper or aluminium.
