Abstract

An alloy for use in casting permanent magnets contains in addition to iron and the usual impurities 10 per cent to 30 per cent nickel, 6 per cent to 11 per cent aluminium, 12 per cent to 30 per cent cobalt, 0.5 per cent to 8 per cent copper, a preferred alloy containing 13.5 per cent nickel, 8 per cent aluminium, 24.5 per cent or 25 per cent cobalt and 3 per cent copper. Niobium may be added in amounts between 0.5 per cent and 3.25 per cent and tantalum may be included either alone or with niobium, the total amount of niobium and tantalum being between 0.5 per cent and 5 per cent and the proportions being between 3 : 1 and 1 : 3.
