Abstract

778,043. Conveyers. MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. May 9, 1955 [May 17, 1954], No. 14399/54. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group VI] Cigarettes C on a conveyer band 1 leading from the cut-off of a continuous rod cigarette-making machine are deflected sideways on to a catcher band 3 by compressed air nozzles 7, 8 arranged to direct air jets of short duration against the side of the cigarettes. Each nozzle 7, 8 comprises several air jet orifices 9 branched from a conduit 10, thesupply of compressed air to which iscontrolled by a rotary disc valve 15 which rotates between spring- pressed sealing blocks 16 in the compressed air supply pipe 13, an orifice 20 in the disc 15 registering with the passages 18 in the blocks 16 once per revolution. The discs 15 are geared together by teeth on their peripheries and are arranged so that the orifices 20 register with the passages 18 to provide a blast of air from the nozzles 7, 8 when a cigarette C is opposite each nozzle. The cigarettes are blown sideways on to the band 3 and gripped between the band 3 and a friction roller 6 faced with yielding material such as sponge rubber to ensure that the cigarettes move sideways with the band 3 The nozzles 7, 8 are adjustable parallel with the band 1 and the nozzle 7 may be arranged to operate slightly before the nozzle 8 to increase the axial separation of the cigarette.
