Abstract
889,288. Cigarette-making machines. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1960 [Dec. 1, 1959], No. 40785/69. Class 130. Cigarettes or stub lengths fed lengthwise into the flutes of a drum 6, Fig. 1, and arrested a short distance from stops 8, 9, are moved against the stops by air pressure or suction. In Fig. 1 cigarettes from a cut-off are moved sideways by a helically grooved suction wheel 3 into the flutes 6 of which alternate ones have stops 8 at their mid-point and stops 9 at their far ends, whereby the cigarettes form two rows for delivery to a catcher band 7. The cigarettes are braked by spring devices as described in Specification 875,330 so as to be arrested a short distance from the stops 8, 9. A shroud 28 surrounds the flutes and air under pressure supplied through a nozzle 40 urges the cigarettes against the stops. A subsidiary nozzle 41, Fig. 3, may be provided in the flutes containing the stops 9. Alternatively the lengths may be moved by suction applied at the left-hand end of the flutes. The plate 2 over which the cigarettes are fed to the wheel 3 is perforated at 60 and connected to a suction device to remove tobacco dust. In Fig. 4 multi-length stubs S are fed to a fluted wheel 50 and urged against stop 52 by air pressure from a nozzle 54 in a shroud 53. The stub lengths comprise lengths of filter material with gaps 55 therebetween and are subsequently cut at 56 to provide double-length mouthpieces for attachment to a pair of cigarettes and bi-section at the gaps 55 to give hollowended mouthpiece cigarettes.
