Abstract

942,303. Cigarette-making machines. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. March 24, 1960 [March 25, 1959], No. 10331/59. Heading A2C. A continuous rod is cut into multiple length portions 1 (e.g. double-length) which are deflected on to a drum 5 on which they are cut to cigarette length whilst moving sideways. As shown the double length portions are deflected sideways into the flutes of the drum 5 by a helically grooved wheel 3 with suction parts 4 to grip the lengths 1. The drum 5 is provided with means to retard the lengths 1 as described in Specification 875,330 and the stops 10, 11, for positioning the lengths in the grooves may be adjustable. After bisection of the lengths 1 by a knife 8, the resulting cigarettes are moved apart by friction rollers 12 and deposited in two rows on a catcher band 13. In a modification, Fig. 4, the double-length portions are deflected on to a drum 5 and transferred to a faster moving second drum 20 with wider-spaced grooves 21 on which they are bisected by knife 8.
