Abstract

775,687. Applying cigarette filter tips. TREBLE, F. R. July 25, 1955 [Aug. 3, 1954, March 7, 1955], Nos. 22516/54 and 6678/55. Class 130 Double length filter plugs 9 and flanking cigarettes 7, 8 respectively fed to axial slots in a rotating sleeve 6 by a device 17 and a hopper 20. form assemblies rolled by a contra-rotating drum 1 to wrap round themselves adhesive uniting bands of cork or paper supplied by a suction drum 22. Belts 11 moving faster than the sleeve 6 assist rolling of the assemblies, which may later be halved, to form filter tip cigarettes, by a cutted 24 or after transference to a fluted drum 27, by a cutter 25. The device 17 comprises a platform from which a cam-operated lifter 13 successively discharges plugs 9 to the sleeve 6 and which is fed by a conveyer 16 receiving plugs 9 severed by cutters 15 from sextuple-length plugs carried round in flutes 5 of a drum 2 from a hopper 14. The drum 2 and sleeve 6 are fast on the same shaft 3, and have circumferential grooves for - accommodating the cutters 15, 24. each preferably formed in a circumferential stiffening rib which, in the case of the sleeve 6, is in turn accommodated in a surface groove of the drum 10.
