Abstract

872,047. Applying cigarette mouthpieces. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. Sept. 6, 1957 [Sept. 6, 1956], No.27305/56. Class 130. Assemblies C, Fig. 1, of double-length mouthpieces flanked by cigarettes are rolled in glued uniting bands B in a passage which, to prevent glue build-up therein, is comprised by a conveying suction drum 1 and an opposed guide 2, the portions of which engaging uniting band front and rear edges are formed by rollers 6, 7 rotating slowly in one or other direction so that their operative surfaces move out of the passage to coact with scrapers 8. A scraper (not shown) may coact with the drum 1. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the rollers 6, 7 are replaced by an endless steel or " plastic " band passing through slots in the guide 2. Fig. 3 shows a passage formed by the drum 1 and a roller 15 whose opposed surface moves at an equal and opposite speed so that the assemblies C are laterally stationary when rolled, later falling into drum pockets 17 for conveyance beneath a brush 18 to fingers 19 engaging drum grooves to strip off the assemblies. A guide 20 may be provided. Each assembly C is delivered to the drum 1 slightly ahead of its uniting band. Specification 871,514 is referred to.
