Abstract

1,069,722. Cigarette-making machines. AMF-SASIB SCIPIONE INNOCENTI BOLOGNA S.p.A. April 15, 1965 [April 16, 1964], No. 16285/65. Heading A2C. Cigarete groups consisting of two axially aligned cigarette lengths and an interposed double filter are united upon an assembling cage 9 formed by a plurality of spaced suction bars 11 revolving around a fixed cylinder 10. Filter lengths are supplied from a drum 1, on which they are cut into double length filters F by cutters 2, via a drum 3 to a drum 4 from which they are transferred to lie centrally against the trailing edge of a bar 11 of the cage 9. At this point suction is applied to the bar 11. Cigarette lengths S are fed from a drum 5 to wheels 61, 62 which space the cigarette lengths apart a distance in excess of a double filter length and axially align them for transfer to the bar 11 on opposite sides of the filter F to form a cigarette group. Suction is applied to the bars 11 up to the point where a rolling disc 25, located inside the cylinder 10, co-operates with a drum 29 for applying connector strips B to the groups. Before this operation the group elements are axially abutted by means of guides. The disc 25 rolls the connector strip B around the group until it contacts the leading edge of the next succeeding bar 11. The groups are further rolled by an endless band 34 adjacent a heating device 27 before being discharged by a brush 35 to a collecting drum 38 on which the groups are severed by a cutter 39 to form pairs of filter cigarettes. In a second embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown), to reduce the length of the periphery of the cylinder 10 over which suction is applied to the bars 11, the double length filters are conveyed from the drum 4 to directly between the cigarette lengths on the wheels 61, 62 for transference as a group to the bars 11.
