Abstract

1,179,683. Delivering cigarette filter tips. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. and W. C. LONDON. 31 March, 1967 [31 March, 1966], No. 14381/66. Heading A2C. Octuple length filter plugs are fed to a fluted drum 9 on which they are each cut by knives 12, 13, (14) into four double length plugs which are then fed to a drum 23 for transfer to a repositioning drum conveyer 26. The drum 26 comprises four fluted discs 27, (28, 29, 30) mounted side by side on a common shaft, each disc bearing three flutes 31, such as 31a, 31b, 31c in disc 27 as shown, the flutes 31 in adjacent discs being spaced 30 degrees from each other in a circumferential direction. The double length plugs, of each set of four, are rolled between a peripheral rolling surface on their respective discs 27-(30) and an arcuate plate counter rolling surface 32 until they drop in turn into their respective flutes 31 in which they are held by suction until they are transferred to a transport drum 38. The speed of rotation of the drum 26 in relation of that of the drum 23 is such that the double length plugs are accelerated at the commencement of the rolling and this accelerated speed is then doubled on their entering their respective flutes 31.
