Abstract

1,041,224. Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement. MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd. March 20, 1963 [March 21, 1962], No. 10834/62. Heading A2C. In apparatus of the type described in Specification 875,330 cigarettes or lengths of mouthpiece material delivered to flutes 8 in a fluted drum and which are to abut against stops 11 are slowed down by a rotating wheel 13 having a frusto-conical hub 13a and a row of cigarette contacting bristles 19. The cigarettes are delivered to the fluted drum by a suction wheel 2 having two helical grooves 4, 5 which deliver cigarettes to the flutes 7 and 8 of the drum respectively. Stops 10 are provided in the flutes 7, the radial distance of the bottoms of the grooves 7 from the centre of the drum being greater than that of the bottoms of the grooves 8. The ends of the grooves are chamfered to the same radial distance from the centre of the drum so that a greater arresting force is applied to cigarettes entering the grooves 7. The wheel 13 is driven in timed relation to the wheel 2 by a belt 18 and the bristles of the brush 19 are arranged so that in operation they run along and with the grooves 8 and exert a progressive force on a cigarette in one of the grooves. Adjustable spring means 20, 24 are provided for exerting a further decelerative force on the cigarettes in the grooves 8 and 7 respectively. The cigarettes are delivered from the drum in two rows to a catcher band 12.
