Abstract
506,615. Cigarette-making machines. MULLER, JUN., C. W. July 8, 1038, No. 20322. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1937. [Class 130] In a tobacco spreader for continuous-rod machines, comprising a carded feed roller a and a brushing roller q or other means for pressing the tobacco into the carding of the roller a, a device p for filling the carding of the roller a is suppled with short tobacco coming from a feed belt b or roller supplying the roller a. As shown, short tobacco from the gap between the belt b and roller a is received by a rotary device i and conveyed by a pipe k to a dust separator m connected by a pipe n to a fan o. The short tobacco is delivered through an oscillatable pipe p on to the roller a. A second brushing roller r may be provided and the tobacco is showered by a stripper s on to a conveyer belt t. In order to regulate the gap between the belt b and roller a in accordance with the requirements of the roller a, shaft h carries pinions g engaging racks f for the adjustment of the roller d for the feed belt b. The shaft h is adjusted by a hand wheel thereon, or may be connected by linkage x. y, z to a feeler w resting on the tobacco on the roller a. In a modification, the belt b is replaced by an adjustable carded roller beneath which is a hopper for receiving the shorts.
