Abstract

726,015. Seats. HAMILTON, B. F. May 11, 1953, No. 13080/53. Class 52 (2). In an office chair in which the back-rest support is pivotally connected to the chair seat and provided with spring means opposing rearward swinging of the back rest, means are provided whereby the back-rest support may be adjusted forwardly and rearwardly with respect to the seat. As shown, the back-rest support comprises a pair of horizontal arms' 22 extending below the seat and each pivoted at the front to a channel bracket 23 carried by the member 12 of the chair seat which member 12 is secured to the chair standard or pillar 11. To permit fore-and-aft adjustment of the arms 22 they are provided with a series of pivot holes 24 through a selected one of which and a registering hole in the channel 23 a pivot pin, having a curled end 26, is passed. The arms 22 pass through a bridge member 31 which connects them while permitting endwise movement of the arms 22, the bridge member having compression springs arranged on a bolt 32 passing through the seat pan 14 and opposing backward swinging of the back-rest support.
