[Classes 52 (i) and 52 (ii)] Relates to an adjustable reclining chair in which the seat is resiliently mounted and is pivoted at the front to a support, a back pivoted to the rear of the seat and means whereby movement of the seat automatically produces a variation in the angle between the seat and the back. As shown the seat 24 is pivoted at 30, 32 to a support 20. A back 34 is pivoted to the rear of the seat at 36 and a guiding link 38 at each side is pivoted to the support 20 at a point spaced from and below the seat pivots 30, 32 and to the back 34 at a point 58 intermediate of the height of the seat. The cross member of the guiding links is provided with torsion springs 70, 72 to provide the resilient suspension of the seat and back, nuts 80, 88 being provided to adjust the torsion of the suspension which tends to raise the seat to its uppermost position. The guiding links 38 are adjustably pivoted to the support by means of arcuate slots 46 in the support and to the back by blocks 62 slidable in slots 63, locking nuts 64 being provided, the arrangement being such that the angle between the seat and back may be pre-adjusted. Straps 92 are provided to limit the upward movement of the seat. In other forms the resilient suspension may comprise torsion springs on the transverse pivot between the seat and the support or instead of torsion springs leaf springs may be arranged directly between the seat and the support. In other modifications the guiding links may also form the arms of the chair, the pivots of the links need not be adjustably mounted or the links may be varied in length by being made telescopic. The seat and back may be locked in any adjusted position by a clamp operated by a lever 96.
