Abstract

726,040. Seats. BASSICK CO. Aug. 5, 1953, No. 21595/53. Class 52 (2). A posture chair of the kind described in Specification 558,309 comprises a tilting seat pivoted adjacent its forward edge to a supporta back connected pivotally to said frame to enable it to have angular movement with respect to the seat and a spring which is compressed by the backward movement of the back and which also serves to mount resiliently the seat. As shown, the chair frame 23 is mounted adjustably on a screwed post 21 having an adjusting nut 22 and the seat is pivoted at 27 to extensions 44 of the chair frame 23. Pivoted at 35 to this frame 23 is a supporting frame or yoke 33, the rear end of which is connected to the seat rear by links 28, the lower ends of which are carried by a pivot 34 which also serves to mount the main back-carrying bracket 31. This bracket 31 has an heightadjusting bracket 30 to which the back 25 is secured and is also adapted to be clamped to an angle-adjusting bracket 32 by clamping bolt 53. Mounted within the yoke 33 is a spring 36, the tension of which can be adjusted by a bolt 37 and nut 39. The spring 36 is provided with a follower 40 pivoted to the chair frame 23 at 35 and a rod 59 having resilient bushings 61 is connected to the back-carrying bracket 31 by links 56 so that on the seat being occupied it tilts rearwardly, causes the yoke 33 to be depressed and through links 56 to cause the follower 40 to compress the spring 36 and so cushion the seat. In addition, backward movement of the back relatively to the seat compresses the spring further until the pressure on the seat back is counterbalanced. Specification 476,840 also is referred to.
