Abstract

445,758. Seats. TAN-SAD CHAIR CO. (1931), Ltd., Foundry Lane, Birmingham, and GABB, A. H., 3, Western Road, Horfield Common, Bristol. Nov. 11, 1935, No. 31099. [Cla,ss 52 (ii)] The back rest a of a seat is coupled to an upright b by means of two links c which are normally horizontal and are pivoted at one end to the upright b and at the other end to a bracket a<1> secured to the seat back a. The back rest a is supported by a tension spring d attached to the upper end of the upright b and is pivotally comiected through a member e<1> to the seat member e. When weight is applied to the seat member e the back rest a moves downwards with e. The inclination of the upright b can be adjusted by slackening a clamp b<1>. In a modification the tension spring d is dispensed with, its function being performed by a compression spring supporting the rear end of the seat part e. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the function of the tension spring is performed by the resilient frame f<1>, f<2>, f<3> which supports the seat part and is attached to the back rest a through the pivot f<4>.
