Abstract

1,209,571. Reclining chairs. GENERAL STEEL PRODUCTS Inc. 5 March, 1969 [18 April 1968], No. 11703/69. Heading A4J. A three-position reclining chair mechanism includes a base 30, a seat member 31 to the rear of which is pivoted a back bracket 32, supporting arms 41 and 65 which pivotally mount the seat 31 and bracket 32 on the base and which swing rearwardly in parallel during movement of the chair from an upright position to an intermediate position so that the seat 31 and bracket 32 have no relative movement, and a linkage 35 which supports the rear of the seat 31 and which includes front and rear links 58 and 56 respectively which are connected to a support link 61 pivoted at its rear end 64 to the seat member 31. During movement of the chair to an intermediate position the upper end 64 of the support link 61 swings rearwardly and downwardly about its connection 63 to the rear link. During further movement to a reclining position, the rear and front links co-operate to elevate the support link and the rear of the seat and the support link and the back support arm 65 cooperate to pivot the bracket 32 downwardly about its pivotal connection to the seat. The front link 58 may have a lost motion connection with the base.
