[Class 52 (ii)] In seats of the kind which can be adjusted into a reclining position by pressure against the seat back, an arm 20 rigid with and extending downwardly from each side of the lower end of the back frame 21 is connected by a system of links with the seat frame. A linkage is arranged at each side of the chair between the chair frame 1 and the seat frame 4 and comprises a bar 10 secured to the inside wall of the chair frame and supporting the seat frame 4 by parallel links 8, 19 pivoted at 9, 18 to the bar 10 and at 6, 7 to an angle bar 5 fixed to the seat frame. A link I 1 pivoted at 9 is connected by a link 13 with the pivot 6 and by a bar 17 with a link 15 pivoted to the bar 10 at 14. Pivoted at 16 to the link 15 and bar 17 is a lever arm 20 pivoted at 31 to an arm 27 pivoted at 7 to the angle bar 5. Arms 22 rigidly secured to the back 21 are detachably pivoted at 23 to the arms 20 and have studs 25 adapted to engage notches 24 at the upper ends of the arms 20 so that the back is rigidly but detachably connected with the arms 20. Stops 28 fixed to the bars 10 engage the links 19 to limit the forward motion of the chair back. Rearward pressure against the seat back in the position shown in Fig. 3 does not tend to tilt the back but downward and rearward pressure moves the parts into the position shown in Fig. 8 the seat being raised as the back is tilted.
