Abstract

1,105,591. Adjusting dental chairs. AMALGAMATED DENTAL CO. 31 Aug., 1964 [31 May, 1963], No. 21954/63. Addition to 878,714. Headings B8H and B8J. [Also in Division A4] A body support in the form of a chair is mounted on a first ram mechanism so as to be adjustable in height, the chair being pivotally mounted and connected to a second, hydraulic ram mechanism whereby the chair can be tilted to assume an upright or reclining position as desired. As shown a bracket 15 is held on a lazy tongs mechanism as described in Specification 927,600 and carries a pivot 16 supporting a one-piece chair shell 17. Extension of a piston rod 12 of a double-acting hydraulic ram 11 tilts the chair shell 17 from an erect to an in - clined position (shown in chain dotted outline). Sectional upholstery 19 is fitted to the shell 17 and a bracket 15 carries a post 22 arranged to engage a pivoted plate 20 to limit its return movement and thus alter the angle at the knee automatically as tilting is carried out. For the accommodation of a child an intermediate section 24 is supported by a metal shell 25 hinged at 26 and associated with struts 27, 28, 29 which are pivoted together and normally lie tucked in at the side of the upholstery. The two sides of the ram 11 are connected with respective, separate reservoirs through respective on-off valves arranged for actuation in unison. Fig. 5 (not shown) illustrates an hydraulic/pneumatic circuit diagram.
