Abstract

222,898. Smith, S. E. April 11, 1923. Swing seats; leg-rests.-A chair of the type wherein the back is pivotally mounted in side frames and is hinged to the rear edge of a movable seat is supported in such a manner as to cause its front edge to take up a lower position as the occupant reclines. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the front of the seat F is supported on short links E pivoted to the side frames, while the rear edge is hinged to the back C which is also pivoted to the side frames at B. A leg-rest may be hinged to the front edge of the seat and supported by pivoted links upon the side frames. The pivotal connection of the seat and back may, in a modification, be above the plane of the seat, an upward extension of the rear edge provided for this purpose being adapted to support the small of the back.
