Abstract

683,698. Pipe joints; stopping. AIR SERVICE TRAINING, Ltd., and BENNETT, R. H. M. Sept. 26, 1950 [Nov. 14, 1949], No. 29058/49. Classes 99 (i) and 99 (ii). In a pipe coupling comprising a hollow coupling member which slidingly receives a male member 12, Fig. 1, onto a seating 16 in its interior, the male member having an external peripheral groove 31 to be within the coupling member, and the latter consisting of two coaxial parts 14, 17 which are movable angularly with respect to one another. it is arranged that coupling part 14 carries angularly-spaced pawls 25, Fig. 2, at the level of the groove 31, Fig. 1, whilst coupling part 17 carries projections, such as pins 28, Fig. 2, coacting with the pawls so that relative angular movement of parts 14, 17 in one direction will force the pawls 25 in the groove to axially locate the coupling member to the male member 12 and in the. other direction will positively retract the pawls. The annular coupling part 14 is provided with a framework 15, the seating 16 accommodating a shoulder on the main part 17, the latter extending downwardly onto the annular part 14, whilst a hose pipe 19 is secured by a clip 21 to the lower end 18 of the main part 17. An annulus 23, Fig. 1, secured to the annular part 14 holds the main part 17 on its seating 16, the annulus 23 carrying three pawls 25, pivotally mounted on pins 26 Fig. 2; the upper edge of the main part is recessed to accommodate the pawls and pins 28. To assemble the coupling the male member 12 is inserted into the bore of the main part 17 until it engages an annular seal 30, Fig. 1, located in the latter and the groove 31 in the member 12 is co-planar with the pawls which have been previously retracted; partial rotation of annular part 14 will then bring the pawls into the locking position in the groove 31, in which position the spring- loaded bolt 33 carried by the main part 17 engages a hole in the annulus 23. When the coupling member has been disconnected from the male member 12 the latter is closed off by a blanking disc similar in construction to the coupling member.
