Abstract

589,513. Universal joints. HARRIS, C. W. March 23, 1945, No. 7350. Addition to 570,153. [Class 80 (ii)] An improvement in the parent Specification for universal joints, for preventing the separation of the respective parts of the joint, in which the member E is bored and tapped to receive a pin K' which has a plain end fitting into a groove L' in the intermediate member D. When maximum deflection is reached, the ends of the groove L' engage the pin K<1>, arresting further angular movement of the driven member E and preventing separation of the parts of the joint. The fork ends of members C, E may be at right angles to the axes of the members and the tongues F<1> bevelled on both sides at 45 degrees over an angle of about 160 degrees as at G<1>, to permit a full working deflection of 45 degrees.
