Abstract

991,346. Universal joints. B.R.D. CO. Ltd. April 23, 1964 [April 16, 1963], No. 14775/63. Heading F2U. A constant velocity ratio double Hooke's joint comprises a spider 10 of which the pairs of pins respectively engage the driving yoke 13 and an intermediate coupling ring 11, the latter carrying a perpendicular pair of pins 31 engaging the driven yoke 12, a coupling member 22 pivotally connected by pin cups 27 to the ring 11 serving to maintain the latter so that its medial plane always bisects the angle between the driving and driven members. For this purpose a centering member 14, similar to that described in Specification 430,859, is provided consisting of a spherical end portion 16 engaging an axial recess 15 in the yoke 12, and with an intermediate spherical portion 21 engaging the coupling member 22 and a remote end portion 17 engaging an axial recess 18 in a plate 19 bolted to the end of the yoke 13.
