In a pipe joint comprising a spigot 7, Fig. 3, and socket 1 capable of engagement and disengagement by a relative axial movement and having therebetween a flexible 0-ring 13 of rubber or similar material, the ring 13 being carried by the spigot 7 and rolling from one to another of two spaced grooves 11, 12 on the spigot when the latter is inserted into or removed from the socket 1, a hooking sleeve 14, which is freely rotatable on the spigot, is provided to lock the spigot in the socket. The socket 1 has a conical shoulder 3, bayonet grooves 4 and diametrical locking slots in its end face, whilst the sleeve 14, which can rotate and slide on the spigot 7, embodies bayonet pins 15 that cooperate with the grooves 4. A collar 16 associated with the sleeve carries spring-loaded pegs 17, Fig. 5, that pass through the sleeve and engage the locking slots in the socket ; the pegs are riveted at 18 to the collar, and springs 20 are mounted in internal seats in the sleeve 14. The collar is pulled axially relative to the sleeve to disengage the locking pegs whereupon the spigot is turned in the socket to disengage the bayonet joint.
