Abstract

813,284. Pipe couplings. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. April 30, 1957 [May 11, 1956], No. 14653/56. Claas 99(1). A quick-release spigot and socket pipe coupling having a sealing ring 13 in the socket 12 engaging the end 6 of the spigot 3 comprises a U-shaped clip 16, Fig. 5, with ends 17 cutting across the bore of the socket to engage in a groove 4 in the spigot to lock the parts together, the coupling being disengaged by sliding a spring-loaded sleeve 18 to the left, Fig. 1, whereby a cam 25 carried thereby moves the ends 17 of the clip 16 out of the groove 4 to permit the socket to be drawn off the spigot. The end of the socket 12 has a semi-cylindrical rib 14 thereon, Fig. 3, in a groove 15 of which the clip 16 is situated, the sleeve 18 having a' corresponding semi-cylindrical rib 24 which engages with the rib 14 to prevent rotation of the sleeve. On engagement of the coupling the parts 17 ride up a conical surface 5 on the spigot and then snap into the groove 4 and on movement of the sleeve 18 for disengagement the parts 17 ride up the cam faces 27.
