Abstract

774,324. Hinges. MIDDELBOE, S. March 1, 1955 [June 26, 1954], No. 5970/55. Class 65(2). A joint, for example, for a lamp bracket, comprises a pair of complementary partspherical members 14, 16 relatively rotatable about an axis, one member 16 having a slightly larger diameter than the other and locking means connected with the latter being engageable with part of the surface of the former in any relative position of the members. In the form shown the joint members are formed with necks 46, 64 and the axis of relative movement of the members is at an angle to this axis, perpendicular to a plane on which the two members meet. The locking means is constituted by a sleeve 36 screw-threaded on a fixing member 18 in which the neck of the joint member 14 is rotatable; this rotation is limited by a lug 50 on the neck 46 engaging a stop-pin 30 in the member 18, which is internally screwthreaded to receive a tubular bracket member. The neck of the joint member 16 has an external screw-thread and an abutment collar. The two joint members 14, 16 are held together rotatably by a resilient ring 82 in complementary annular recesses in interfitting parts of the members; the member 18 is similarly held on the neck of the member 14. The member 36 may be carried directly on the neck of the member 14, or it may be carried by the member 16 to engage the surface of the member 14; it may be slidable or otherwise movable into frictional engagement with the spherical surface. The members are bored for the passage of an electric cable through the joint.
