Abstract

672,109. Stoppers. ANCHOR HOCKING GLASS CORPORATION. June 12, 1950 [June 15, 1949], No. 14640/50. Class 125(iii) A closure for glass containers comprises. a metal cap 1 having a cover 4, and a skirting 2 for receiving a rubber or like gasket 6 the gasket having a portion 6b inwardly facing in a channel in the skirting, a thin integral annular extension 6c and a portion 6a seated in an annular peripheral grooved zone 5 of the cover part 4. The mouth of the glass container is shaped as shown in Fig. 3. One method of assembling the gasket in the metal cap is shown in Fig. 5 wherein the metal cap is seated in a die 18 and the gasket of rectangular form 6a is forced into the. cap to assume the shape shown in Fig. 1 a channel 19 being provided in the plunger 20 and having a curved portion 21 which forces the edge of the metal cap to turn inwardly as shown at 10, Fig. 1, to grip the gasket which is then vulcanized in position. Another method consists of forcing, by means of a plunger 27, Fig. 7, liquid rubber &c 24 through ducts 22 into the metal cap, ducts 25 being provided for release of air. An electric heater as shown may be provided in the base of the die 18. Specification 618,772 U.S.A. Specifications 1,909,406 and 2,308,126 are referred to.
