Abstract

1491449 Closure cap ANCHOR HOCKING CORP 17 Dec 1974 [9 Jan 1974] 54485/74 Heading B8T A closure cap 2 comprises a cover portion 6 and a depending skirt 9 wherein the free edge of the skirt is turned radially inwardly and wherein a step is provided in the skirt between its free edge and the cover portion which step forms an annular bead 11 extending radially inwardly with respect to the outer surface of the remainder of the skirt. The bead and the inwardly turned end of the skirt are connected by an intermediate portion 13 of the skirt to form a channel 15 having a shallow V-shaped base, the channel accommodating a rubber- or rubberlike annular gasket 4. The dimension W of the gasket is less than the dimension C, preferably W is 80% of C. The cap is intended for fitting on the neck of a container 3 to form an hermetic seal. The glass finish of the container 3 has a flared guide surface 20 and a sealing surface 5 of lesser flare therebelow which is contacted by the gasket 4 when the cap is located on the container neck. The container is claimed in Specification 1,491,450 which has been divided from this Specification.
