Abstract

1400033 Closure member WALTER WIEDMER PLASTIKFORM 18 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 48041/72 Heading B8T A closure 50 for a container 51 with a neck 2 and a mouth bead 1 consists of an inwardly curved deformable elastic disc 4 with a holding portion 3 integral with a side portion 52. Holding portion 3 extends round the mouth bead 1 and has an exterior skirt 31 carrying an inwardly tightening ring 5 which bears against a stop edge 6 on the underside of mouth bead 1 when the bottle pressure increases. The disc 4 is thicker at the edge 42 than at the centre 41. An external sealing lip 7 on the side wall 52 has a rounded surface which engages the interior wall of neck 2, and increased pressure within the container results in flattening of disc 4 and a rotation of lip 7 to improve the sealing. A annular centring lip 8 extends downwards into the container from the periphery of disc 4, the outer diameter of the free end being less than that of the inner diameter of the bottle to produce an annular slot 9, which varies as the internal diameter of the bottle neck varies. A tab 10 with ribs 101 is provided on the exterior of the holding portion 3, and to ensure that bottle overpressure will result in a longitudinal closure "throw off", the edge of holding portion 3 diametrically opposite tab 10 is thickened by making the outer wall 32 of holding member 3 eccentric with inner wall 33.
