Abstract

1385034 Container and closures CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 3 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 5053/72 Heading B8T The closure 12 of a container closure combination 10 is made of a material with a slow resilient return rate so that after the closure is pushed downwardly as in Fig. 3 causing the rounded surface 32 at the lower edge of skirt 27 of the closure to cam down shoulder 24 of the container, displacing bead 31 radially outwardly from its interlocking position with shoulder 22 of the container, the skirt returns to its original shape only slowly, leaving closure 12 temporarily free to be removed. In a modification an inner annular cylindrical sealing member engages the inner surface of the neck of the container, and is distorted radially inwardly by an inner camming surface, as the closure is depressed prior to removal. Again, a cylindrical section below the outer camming surface maintains the skirt in its distorted shape until the skirt is lifted over it; or a gasket of easily compressible material may be housed in an annular downwardly open channel between the skirt and the inner sealing member of the closure. In another arrangement it is the container that is resilient and is distorted prior to removal of the closure.
