Abstract

1342970 Container closures CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 19 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 25666/71 Heading B8T A container 12 is provided with a neck portion 20 narrowing from shoulder 18 to.terminate in beading 28, and has a closure cap 14 comprising a rigid closure member 36 with attached, sealing gasket 38, loosely retained in a flexible outer fitment 34 which has a tamper-proof lift ring 50; the closure member 36 being normally held in position on the neck by the engagement of flange 66 under, the beading 28 with the skirt 46 of the fitment engaging the shoulder to leave no room for the insertion of a tool for prying off the cap. A circular recess 42 is formed in the closure member and co-operates with a perforation in the cap to provide a stacking ring; the perforation being formed between a flange 48 and lift ring 50 and crossed by a hinge portion 54 and tamper-proof frangible portions 52. On pulling the ring to remove the cap, the flange 66 first disengages the beading, then slides over it to engage the rigid closure member as shown in Fig. 5 and raise it, thereby overcoming vacuum in the container. The closure may be pressed back into position for re-use.
